Roland was born in Mosman on 22/08/1918.

​He married to Katherine Helen Stephens in 1944 in North Sydney.
Katherine was born in Point Piper on 02/11/1915.

​They had the following children:

• Malcolm Ronald Glennie Holmes (1945 –       )

• Katherine Glennie Holmes (1947 –       )

• Nicholas Glennie Holmes (1953 –       )

​Katherine died in Canberra on 21/01/1973.

Roland died in  Canberra on 21/07/2007.
