John Howard leaves us with a wonderful portrait of himself after being caught for breaking the law of the land, courtesy of the Darlinghurst Gaol photographer. John who was convicted of perjury continues the list of convicts that emerged in the Howard lineage with his great grandfather Robert being sent out on the second fleet as a convict for a petty crime of stealing a pie and table cloth and his grandfather Thomas served time also for forgery of a five pound cheque.
John was sentenced to 3 years in gaol on 20/04/1899. He was discharged on 19/08/1901. During his imprisonment his mother Carrie was looking after his children, together with Catherine.
Catherine died on 02/01/1931 in Walcha and is burried there too.
John died in Yarrowich, Walcha on 22/09/1916, as a result of a self inflicted rifle shot wound.
Harry/Henry Joseph Howard (1894 – 1983)
Harry was born in Walcha on 31/12/1894. His birth registration was in 1895, registration 8362.
In the Australia, World War II Military Service Records, 1939-1945 he is registered as Henry Joseph Howard.
He married to Jean Winifred Stevenson in 1956 In Sydney. Jean was born in 1909 in Sydney.
They had no children.
Both are mentioned in the electoral rolls in 1980 for Cowper, Kempsey.
Henry died in Kempsey on 25/06/1983.
Jean died in 1994.
Both are buried at Kempsey East Cemetery.

Maud Blanche Howard (1903 – 1980)
Maud was born in Walcha on 08/09/1903.
Maud, also known as Maree, married to Arthur E Viney in Cessnock in 1926. Arthur was born in 1906 in Barraba. The marriage ended in divorce and Arthur married twice before he died on 22/04/1960.
It is unknown if they had any children.
Maud died in 1980. On her death registration her parents are listed as John and Catherine. Maud is registered under her nickname Maree. Registration number is 5084/1980.
William Thomas Howard (1906 – 1976)
William was born in Tamworth on 27/05/1906 and baptised on 17/07/1906 in St Nicholas, Tamworth.
He married to Margaret O’Connell in 1927 in Hamilton. Margaret was born in Waratah in 1910.
They had 2 children.
William died on 07/07/1976 in NSW (published SMH 08/07/1976).

Emily was born in Tamworth on 12/07/1908 and baptised on 20/08/1908 in St Nicholas Tamworth.
She married to Noel Alfred Westerweller in 1932 in Tamworth. Noel was born in Gunnadah on 06/12/1907.

Emily died on 12/09/1977 and is buried at Matraville.

Mervyn was born in Walcha on 12/01/1913.
He accidentally drowned whilst bathing in Apsley Falls Walcha on 25/12/1929.
He is buried alongside his mother Catherine.
